Youssoufa Moukoko may be heading to Stamford Bridge
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea is eyeing up their options at the center-forward position and 18-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund is among those being considered.
With Lukaku and Werner both leaving the club in the past transfer window, only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was brought in as a last-minute signing on September 1st. Armando Broja also returned from a loan at Southampton.
It was recently reported that Armando Broja, unfortunately, tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the Premier League season.
It now looks like Chelsea will be looking to strengthen the number 9 position with a true striker, with emerging German talent Youssoufa Moukoko now looking likely to make a move to England.
Moukoko has been within Borussia Dortmund’s system since 2016, making his way up to the senior ranks with Dortmund. He became the youngest-ever Bundesliga player in 2020 at 16 years and 1 day old. Still just 18, Moukoko has 6 goals and 4 assists in 14 matches this season with Dortmund and earned himself a World Cup inclusion with Germany where he picked up just a single minute against Japan in the Group Stage.
It begs the question, why would Dortmund sell Moukoko so early in his senior career? Moukoko has just 7 months left on his contract which is set to expire in the summer of 2023. Dortmund has been unsuccessful in contract negotiations with Moukoko and may be forced into cashing in come January.
Should the Blues not secure the services of Youssoufa Moukoko in January, they could return to him in July on a free transfer, per David Ornstein.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Dortmund is still trying to tie down Moukoko to a new contract but they have just December left to strike a deal.
