Arsenal have options in mind heading into the January transfer window.

It’s difficult to switch off from Arsenal-mode while watching the World Cup. Countless times I have found myself watching players and analysing how they will fit into the Arsenal squad, even though realistically we probably have a 0.01% chance of signing that player I’m drooling over.

But, it turns out the Arsenal recruitment team are doing the exact same thing – the analysing I mean, not the drooling.

According to a report from Calciomercato, the Gunners are interested in joining the race for Adrien Rabiot. They are thought to experience competition from Chelsea, who also would like to sign the 27-year-old French midfielder with only half a year left on his contract.

I know what you’re thinking – I know that guy’s name, and you do It wasn’t just his terrific display against Australia which caught your attention either, as Arsenal have been linked with him every single transfer window until now. I’m not exaggerating either.

In many ways, it would feel like a homecoming if Rabiot did join London Colney. The amount of YouTube compilations fans have watched of him, usually every summer and every January, it feels like he’s been an Arsenal player for some time now.

But this time, it just makes sense. Rabiot is a mature player now and he is consistently proving his worth. Most notably, scoring on the world’s biggest stage an putting in the best performance on the pitch.

The transfer comes at a time where Mikel Arteta and company are also considering Danilo. Danilo is a player who has long been on the radar for Arsenal, with a failed bid made for the midfielder in the summer.

Danilo’s price is only rising, whereas given his contract situation, Rabiot’s is only declining. Therefore, it is the most cost-efficient solution to sign Rabiot, who is entering the prime stages of his career (and playing like it, too).
