England were held to a 0-0 stalemate with the USA in the World Cup, and Twitter was loving it.
This is the game that a lot of England fans were looking forward to when their World Cup group was announced. There is an undertone of bitterness between USA and England when it comes to football (or soccer, as the American fanbase would call it).
With USA drawing their opening game versus Wales and England thrashing Iran on their opening game, there only seemed to be one winner. Or at least, that’s what English pundits thought.
I myself was guilty of underestimating USA, a mistake which I will no longer make. The team came at England with plenty of confidence and tenacity, two things which England lacked.
The game finished 0-0 so of course, it is not the end of the world. However, it is in England’s nature to overreact to draws since we expect our players to go out and win every single match by a landmark victory… I did say I was guilty myself.
Twitter is the best place to be to see all the reactions. The in-depth analysis from trained professionals go overlooked when Twitter is involved and you can see why, with tweets as golden as these…
A reminder that Phil Foden plays every key game for the best football team on the planet.

But apparently cannot even get off the bench for an #ENG team which can’t string three passes together #ENGUSA
It is a confusing choice by southgate to continuously leave Foden out of the starting XI, especially when the attackers performed as poorly as they did yesterday.

It did seem like 90 minutes wasted.

The 0-0 draw means that under the rules James Corden has to be left in the middle of the Atlantic in a dinghy. #ENGUSA

There was more on the line than just football vs soccer… James Corden’s future is still under question.
Only once have England's men ever won 3 games out of 3 in a group at a major tournament (World Cup 1982) so you'd think as a nation we might have got a bit more used to the idea of drawing a group game by now. It was poor but a draw's not a disaster #ENGUSA

I mean, it is true but you don’t have to say it like that.
The Most Overrated Team in the World v The Most Underrated Team in the World. #ENGUSA

I can’t say I disagree with this one.
What did you make of England’s draw with USA?
