Lord O’Neill (The Red Knights)

Former Goldman Sachs chief economist Lord Jim O’Neill has admitted he would consider forming a consortium to mount a second takeover bid of Manchester United.

Lord O’Neill led his group of investors (also known as The Red Knights) in an attempt to buy the club back in 2010 when protests against the Glazers were at its peak.

Alongside hedge fund manager Sir Paul Marshall, he was behind the Red Knights campaign in 2010, which mounted a £1.25billion bid for the club.

However, a deal never materialized and the Glazers ended up staying on as the owners.

The Red Devils have employed The Raine Group as consultants with regards to the sale after their work with Chelsea.

The Blues were ultimately sold to a consortium led by Todd Boehly for an estimated £2.5billion in May.

Lord O’Neill believes a similar auction-style sale will take place for Manchester United, with the Glazers slapping a record fee.

O’Neill, a Manchester United fan would make an ideal investor considering the Red Devils have been crying out for an owner who would be willing to take Manchester United to the next level, on the pitch as well as off it.
