The question on all Manchester United fans’ minds right now is… Who will own the club now?

According to recent reports, Manchester United are potentially up for sale with it’s owners considering their options.

The owners, who bought the club for £790million back in 2005 are reportedly exploring “strategic alternatives” and it is thought that they wouldn’t shy away from a potential sale.

The decision has been welcomed by Manchester United fans, who have protested against the American ownership for nearly 17 long years.

The Glazer family believe that they can sell the club for an estimated figure of £4billion-£5billion, a significant upside on their investment back in 2005 while some believe it could be even more.

The main question here would be who might actually be interested in buying the club?

Sir Jim Ratcliffe (INEOS)

One of the United Kingdom’s richest men, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is one of a few names who has been regularly mentioned with regards to a potential takeover of Manchester United.

The Sunday Times Rich List places him as the 27th wealthiest person in the United Kingdom, with a total wealth of £6billion, though Forbes puts it at just under £11billion.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is a Manchester United fan and has been critical about their transfer activity in the past.

This may appeal to supporters who have been disillusioned with the current owner’s lack of investment in the stadium facilities as well as the youth academy.

From operations once owned by the likes of oil giant BP, Sir Jim Ratcliffe created a company also known as INEOS, which has an estimated turnover of $65billion as of 2021.

While his firm owns the French side OGC Nice, he also intended to purchase Chelsea. The Lancashire-born businessman was also linked to Liverpool’s proposed sale before his firm ruled out a move for any English Premier League (EPL) side.

It will definitely be interesting to see how this story unfolds given the majority of Old Trafford faithful are behind Sir Jim and his desire to take Manchester United back to the top.
