Harry Kane received a knock against Iran and is still a doubt for England.

England come up against USA in the second match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign. Getting off to a stellar start against Iran in the group stage by beating them 6-2, Harry Kane was unfortunately substituted off in the match.

At first, it didn’t seem like much to be concerned about – although this is probably because my friends and I were already a few pints deep at this point. Gareth Southgate said after the match that he thought Kane would be fine. However, 90min reports that Kane is still feeling the knock and a serious last minute decision will be made by Southgate on Friday.

If Kane is injured it will, of course, be a big blow. Although the good news is, with Southgate’s positivity, it should mean Kane is only out for one game maximum.

Furthermore, Callum Wilson is raring to go and he got off to a great start in the competition as he came on and selflessly assisted Jack Grealish, despite being through on goal with an opportunity to snatch the glory for himself.

Against Iran, Kane was not on the score sheet. However, he did put in a magnificent performance, as England fans are used to seeing. He played very selflessly and dropped deep, getting the faster attackers in on goal. It was a great game plan and his passing ability really shone through in this match.

Kane will continue to train and assess the situation. Passion will be on his side, but he needs to be careful. It is still early stages in the competition and if the Three Lions want to go far, they need their captain and main talisman to go about his business risk free.
