Fri 2 Nov – Pellistri starts as Uruguay get knocked out

It was a tournament to forget for Uruguay. Although, it was nice to see Pellistri get a start in their last match of the competition. They won the match on the day but the scoreline of 2-0 was not enough to push through, Pellistri will be coming back to Manchester.

Fri 2 Nov – Antony and Fred start, while Casemiro benched as Brazil goes through

Varane did not have the best of games for France and was rightly subbed off for Arsenal’s William Saliba. Still, France progress.

Wed 30 Nov – Christian Eriksen is coming back to Manchester

I won’t beat around the bush – Denmark were awful in this competition. Of all the times, they underperformed the most.

Mon 28 Nov – Fernandes scores twice for Portugal as Pellistri comes off the bench for Uruguay

Bruno Fernandes scored twice, but one of the goals remains in contention as a certain Ronaldo is trying to claim the goal touched his hair. Yes, you heard that right – Ronaldo is literally trying to take a goal away from his own teammate because it touched his hair. The less I say about it, the better.

It was a nice moment for Pellistri too, as he came off the bench and got half an hour. Meanwhile, Dalot was unused for Portugal.

Mon 28 Nov – Casemiro scores, Fred starts and Antony off the bench for Brazil

Sat 26 Nov – Lisandro Martinez plays full match for Argentina

Argentina could have found themselves heading out of the World Cup in what would have been a shock exit, but they pulled off a 2-0 win courtesy of Lionel Messi magic. Lisandro Martinez played phenomenal at the back and his importance granted his country a clean sheet.

Fri 25 Nov – Maguire and Shaw play full match, Rashford comes off the bench for England

It was a good defensive display from Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire but, disappointingly, Marcus Rashford was not given enough time off the bench to make an attacking difference. The game finished England 0-0 USA. Yawn.

Tyrell Malacia had to watch the match from the bench yet again as Netherlands drew 1-1 with Ecuador.

Facundo Pellistri started in attack during a goalless draw between Uruguay and South Korea. It was an average performance, but an invaluable 88 minutes of World Cup football for the upcoming 20-year-old

Raphael Varane was on the bench and did not come on for France as they beat Australia 4-1.
