KNOCKOUT STAGES

Sat 3 Dec – Pulisic gets assist but USA are eliminated from the knockouts

It was always going to be a difficult match against Netherlands but Christian Pulisic’s assist gave his nation plenty of hope. Now though, Pulisic will return to London prepared to focus on unfinished business in the second half of the season.

GROUP STAGES

Fri 2 Dec – Zakaria plays 21 minutes as Switzerland goes through

Zakaria got another important 21 minutes from the bench as Siwtzerland beat Serbia to go through to the knockout stages.

Fri 2 Dec – Thiago Silva unused as Brazil goes thorough

Silva was rested in Brazil’s loss to Cameroon, but his beloved nation will still play in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Thu 1 Dec – Kovacic plays 90 minutes as Croatia go through

Kovacic will be playing in yet another World cup knockout stage as Croatia have done very well so far this tournament. In what was many people’s group of death, Chelsea stars Kovacic and Ziyech made it out of group F.

Thu 1 Dec – Ziyech scores to send Morocco through

Chelsea star Ziyech is having a fine tournament with Morocco. Having scored his side’s first goal, they will now progress through to the knockout stages of the tournament having not lost a game yet.

Thu 1 Dec – Azpilicueta assists former Chelsea teammate, Spain goes through

Overall, it was a whirlwind of emotions for Spain as they lost to Japan, but they will still be going through to the knockout stages of the World Cup in second place. Cesar got the assist for Morata’s goal in what felt like a blast for the past for the Blues – Azpi played 46 minutes before being subbed off.

Thu 1 Dec – Havertz scores twice for Germany but he will be coming home

Kai Havertz came off the bench in fine fashion to score two goals against Costa Rica on Thursday but it was too little too late. Germany have been eliminated from this year’s World Cup.

Tue 29 Nov – Pulisic progresses to knockout stages and scores for USA – Potential injury

It was a whirlwind of emotions for Christian Pulisic. In dramatic fashion, his side USA progressed through to the knockout stages of the World Cup having scored in the first-half. He was subbed off and taken to hospital, but Sports Illustrated thinks he will play on Saturday.

Tue 29 Nov – Mount, Sterling and Gallagher progress to knockout stages with England – all unused

No Chelsea players were used in England’s 3-0 triumph over Wales, which saw them progress through to the knockout stages.

Tue 29 Nov – Koulibaly and Mendy progress to knockout stages with Senegal – Goal for Koulibaly

Koulibaly and Mendy unsurprisingly played the full match for Senegal as they confirmed their place in the knockout stages of the competition courtesy of a goal from the captain Koulibaly. They will play England.

Mon 28 Nov – Thiago Silva plays full match for Brazil, Zakaria unused for Switzerland

Brazil vs Switzerland finished 1-0 to Brazil on Monday. It was a match where Thiago Silva captained his side and played the full match, whereas Chelsea starlet Zakaria did not play for Switzerland.

Sun 27 Nov – Cesar Azpilicueta unused for Spain, Kai Havertz unused for Germany

Germany came up against Spain in a game Chelsea fans would have been eager to watch. However, both of their players were unused subs in the 1-1 draw.

Sun 27 Nov – Mateo Kovacic plays 86 minutes for Croatia

Croatia completed a 4-1 comeback against Canada and if things stay as they are, Kovacic will advance to the knockout stages.

Sun 27 Nov – Hakim Ziyech plays full match and gets assist for Morocco

In one of the more underrated wins of this tournament, Chelsea forward Ziyech played a key part. He was frustrated to score an offisde goal earlier in the match, but he went on to assist a goal and put in a stellar performance both on and off the ball.

Fri 25 Nov – Mount and Sterling face Pulisic in the group stage match

It was a Chelsea clash in group B of the World Cup. Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling started the match for England, with Sterling being subbed off just before the 70th minute – Mount played the full match. Pulisic started for USA and was one of their best players, almost scoring but he hit the woodwork. The game finished 1-1.

Fri 25 Nov – Mendy and Koulibaly play full match for Senegal

Chelsea duo Mendy and Koulibaly played excellently well for the full 90 minutes for Senegal against Qatar. They did not keep a clean sheet, but it could have been more than one goal if it wasn’t for their solid performance.

Thu 24 Nov – Thiago Silva captains and plays full match for Brazil

Thiago Silva opened his final international tournament in the way he knows best – keeping a clean sheet. The Brazil captain put in an inspired performance at the back.

Thu 24 Nov – Denis Zakaria unused for Switzerland

Zakaria, who is currently on loan at Chelsea from Juventus, did not play at all as Switzerland beat Cameroon.

Wed 23 Nov – Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech face each other in Croatia vs Morocco

In the end, the points were shared between Kovacic’s Croatia and Ziyech’s Morocco in a goalless draw. On the pitch, though, they did not play like teammates. Kovacic was subbed off late in the match while Ziyech played the full 90 minutes.

Wed 23 Nov – Cesar Azpilicueta plays 90 minutes for Spain

Spain won impressively 7-0 against Costa Rica. Azpilicueta was the captain and full-back and he put in an inspired performance, helping his side to their landmark opener. 90 minutes for the Chelsea man in Qatar.

Wed 23 Nov – Kai Havertz blanks for Germany

He scored a goal which was rightly ruled out for offside. It was not a great display for Havertz as Germany lost to Japan, and his second half substitution was justified.

Mon 21 Nov – Christian Pulisic assists for USA

USA played Wales in a 1-1 draw. It was a well worked goal from USA and it came courtesy of a Christian Pulisic assist. Overall, a good display from the Chelsea rotational forward.

Mon 21 Nov – Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly play 90 minutes for Senegal

Senegal played Netherlands in their opening match of the competition. It was not a good game for Chelsea keeper Mendy and defender Koulibaly as they conceded two goals.

Mon 21 Nov – Sterling scores, Mount starts and Gallagher unused for England

Raheem Sterling kicked off his account for this tournament against Iran courtesy of a good finish in the first half. Mason Mount started the game but was subbed off in the 70th minute as he struggled to impact the game. Conor Gallagher was an unused sub.
