FPL: Joao Cancelo will be available for gameweek 16 despite suspension

Joao Cancelo was the biggest disappointment in gameweek 15 of the FPL season. I, like many other managers who had him in the team, had to look at his sad scoreline of -2 points. This is because the Manchester City picked up a red card early on in the match and conceded a penalty, which the Citizens went on to concede.

Cancelo has been an excellent defender and one which I have never wanted to take out. This was until I saw that he had picked up a red card and as a result would go onto face a matchweek ban. I thought that this would be a hinderance and reason to transfer him out of my team for a defender who could pick me up some much-needed points heading into the World Cup break.

However, it is good news for me and all of his other owners. The Manchester City man will be available for selection in gameweek 15 after a loophole in FA’s rulebooks will allow Cancelo to serve his one-match ban in the Carabao Cup. The Carabao Cup obviously not affecting his FPL score.

It is likely that Guardiola will start Cancelo. While he will be annoyed that the defender almost cost his team the three points, these things happen in football. Especially when you are a defender facing extreme pressure in the Premier League, then you are prone to putting a foot wrong.

Still, the game was wrong courtesy of a late Erling Haaland penalty. Whether it be controversial or not, this goal was a breath of fresh air for FPL owners, and a sign of his full return to the squad.

For now, there is no need to transfer Cancelo out of your FPL team. He is available, and he will be willing to pick up some points after his mistake last week.
