Option 3 for Manchester United: Gavin Bazunu (Southampton)

The Irishman raised eyebrows when he decided against staying at the Etihad and rather opted to join Southampton but has so far managed to impress everyone.

Having spent the previous season out on loan to the Saints rivals, Portsmouth, Bazunu has managed to displace Alex McCarthy, taking the number 1 spot.

The goalkeeper’s role has evolved with every passing year, with the modern-day keepers becoming more involved in a team’s build-up play, now more than ever before.

These past few years, we’ve seen a change in how goalkeepers help in that process, as the likes of Ederson and Allison join their defensive line as another number to facilitate build-up.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed success with his club and country, most notably denying Cristiano Ronaldo a goal via a penalty in the previous season.

Bazunu is regarded as a multi-faceted keeper who resembles the modern-day requirements of the position.

Bazunu has been nothing short of a revelation for Southampton this time around. This one is a bit left field but no doubt a player for the years to come should Manchester United battle for his signature.

Having just signed for the south coast club in August, it may take a more hefty fee to bring the Dubliner to Old Trafford but it definitely would be a bargain, considering the improvements he’s made to the build-up play at St. Mary’s.
