Chelsea Midfielder Billy Gilmour Completes Brighton Switch
Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour has left Stamford Bridge again, but this time on a permanent deal. He will join Brighton for a reported fee of £9m.
The Blues tried to tie up all deals, outgoing and incoming, before the deadline day on September 1st. Including Gilmour’s transfer, Chelsea will see 24 players leave the club this summer, being released, sold, or loaned out.
Billy Gilmour’s exit from the club was a long time coming but it was never on the books that the Scotsman would leave West London on a permanent deal. He has been at Chelsea since 2017 after they signed him from Scottish side: Rangers.
They paid a “developing” fee of £500,00 for him at 15 years old. Following his move to the Blues, he only made 11 Premier League appearances, two Champions League features, and nine domestic cup appearances.
His most minutes on the pitch at the highest level have come during his time at Norwich City, where he made 23 starts out of 28 features across all competitions.
Hopefully, at Brighton, he will find a long-term home with familiar people he used to work with at Rangers. Davie Weir used to work with Gilmour when at Ibrox. Rangers are also set to receive £1,35m in the sale of Billy Gilmour to Brighton.
"The Scotland star is on his way to the south coast as he has become isolated at Stamford Bridge and, as the Seagulls already have a loan deal from Chelsea in place with Levi Colwill, it has to be a permanent move and a chance for the midfielder to launch a new chapter.Rangers are set to land £1.35million as Billy Gilmour completes a £9million move from Chelsea to Brighton.Brighton’s technical director is former Rangers captain Davie Weir, who was Mark Warburton’s assistant at Ibrox when Gilmour was the poster boy at the Milngavie academy.(via: scottishdailyexpress.co.uk)"
Ethan Ampadu: One of Three Players who departed Chelsea on Deadline Day
Defender Ethan Ampadu has also departed from the Bridge. He is being linked with a loan move to Spezia in Italy. Included in the Evening Standard report; there is an option to buy for £12m while transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has made the claims that this is false and there will be no buy options included for the centre-back.
He too has struggled to break into the first team, making one EPL appearance for the Blues. He, along with Gilmour are key players for their respective countries and are on the move in order to stay match-fit for the World Cup coming in November.
Blues Make Swap Deal for Striker
Chelsea have agreed to a deal with Barcelona that will see striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rejoin Thomas Tuchel while Marcos Alonso plus £12m heads in the other direction.
The former Arsenal captain and striker is said to be in London busy with the final details of his deal, which is also subject to a medical.
Chelsea reaches an agreement to sign Dinamo’s Zakharyan
It is also believed the London club have signed 19-year-old youngster, Arsen Zakharyan. He will stay at Dinamo Moscow on loan until some financial issues get sorted out.
Ajax Deny Edson Alvarez Blues Move
Tom Roddy of The Times & The Sunday Times has tweeted: talks for the midfielder were progressing well and £40m is the said price being discussed for Alvarez. Other outlets suggest he is pushing for the move and has stopped training with the Dutch club. Sadly, these attempts to force a move to the Premier League did not materialise with Ajax unwilling to lose another first-team player, especially with there being no replacement in place on such short notice.
