Having signed several players already, West Ham are still looking to upgrade their squad as the deadline day of the transfer window approaches.
The East London outfit has already signed Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Emerson and Thilo Kehrer.
The club has now turned its attention to Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher. Reports from the Sun suggest that David Moyes is a big fan of the midfielder and desperately wants to bring him to East London.
The report says;
"WEST HAM are plotting a daring bid to land Chelsea’s rising star Conor Gallagher.Boss David Moyes wants the energetic midfielder to spend the season on loan with The Irons.(…)Moyes wants to inject pace and power into the heart of his team, particularly after losing the first three games of the campaign which has left his team bottom of the table.via thesun.co.uk"
Does Gallagher Fit the Profile at West Ham?
Gallagher fits the profile perfectly. However, he is not the only midfielder West Ham are looking to pair Declan Rice with for the rest of the season.
The Hammers have also been liked with a move for Olympique Lyon’s Lucas Pacqueta, Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Club Brugge’s Hans Vanaken.
They have spent a lot of money on their first seven signings of the season and are trying to sign Conor Gallagher on loan. We could, however, see Gallagher move permanently to the club with his rumoured price tag said to be around only £35 million.
He has struggled to get minutes for Chelsea this season and will continue to do so once N’golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are fit again.
For the last two seasons, he has been sent out on loan to fellow Premier League teams. In the 2021/22 season, the young Englishman impressed at Crystal Palace, before which he was on a season-long at West Brom.
However, signing the 22-year-old will not be easy for the Hammers. His previous loan club, Crystal Palace, and newly rich Newcastle United are also said to be interested in the Chelsea academy graduate.
Chelsea are still trying to get the Anthony Gordon deal over the line and the sale of Conor Gallagher could help them bring the young Evertonian to the club.
Gallagher is a young player with loads of potential and if he wants to succeed, he needs to get regular game time again. At Chelsea, with their depth in midfield, it does not look likely for him to get as much game time as he wants.
West Ham off to a Poor Start
The Hammers have been the worst performing team to date and after three EPL matchdays. They have lost all of their encounters, have failed to register a goal and a point, and have conceded five goals, the third joint-highest with three other clubs: Brentford, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
