Transfer News: Chelsea Increase Their Offer for Final Gordan Bid
Chelsea are working hard at trying to get a deal for one of their main targets in recent weeks over the line. They will now make their final approach to Everton for young Anthony Gordan with an increased offer of £60m pounds, which includes add-ons.
It’s the home stretch of the summer transfer window while the Premier League is well and truly underway in England. With a couple of weeks left in the market, clubs frantically try to tie up all their business and get their final pieces added to the squad to take on the first half of the season.
The Blues were one of the English clubs with a slow start in the transfer window after the change in ownership and after they failed to convince two of their three main centre-backs to extend their stay at the Bridge.
Thankfully, they have already added some quality names to the roster but are from done in the market, with a striker and Everton attacker, Anthony Gordon, the biggest priorities to sort out now.
Sky Sports suggests there has been a development in the matter and the buyers are now prepared to pay £60m for the youngster after having a bid in the region of £45m rejected by the Toffees. This revelation after the player made it clear that he would like to leave Goodison Park without having to hand in a transfer request.
Frank Lampard Remains Confident He Will Stay Put
The manager has spoken openly regarding the Anthony Gordon transfer saga. He stands firm on his belief that he will remain an Evertonian for the season ahead but has openly admitted to the Blues’ interest in the player.
The Everton boss on the Chelsea target:
"Gordon’s our player, everyone knows of Chelsea’s interest. We have a good relationship, ideally [a quick resolution to the situation] or we carry on and he’s our player. via @alanmyersmedia"
The sad reality is that Everton’s opening three fixtures and where they lay in the table standings, will not help the manager and club in convincing him to stay and invest in the Lampard project. Also, not signing a striker has proven fatal in their results and could be showing the players at the club little ambition.
The Big Surprise in This Saga?
The big kicker in all of this is how Everton cannot be tempted by the huge £60m offer. They could invest in much-needed quality up front and cash in on a player who wants out.
Chelsea, also spending big on young talent instead of using that money on a proven goalscorer with their problems at the top end of the pitch quite parallel to Everton’s. A £60m Gordon transfer is far from the solution for the Stamford Bridge side.
Wesley Fofana Latest: Leicester City Reject Latest Bid
Leicester City are not budging on their demands and believes they are entitled to £80m plus for Wesley Fofana. He is another player who has expressed his desire to leave and join the West London outfit but is being priced out of a deal.
They have recently rejected a bid of £70m from Chelsea for the star centre-back who was also left out of the matchday squad that lost to Southampton 2-1 on Saturday past. This led many to believe the club was prepping for life without Fofana and it was only a matter of time before the two clubs agree on a fee.
"Chelsea’s latest offer was believed to be £60m with a possible £10m in add-ons – but the fee was unlikely to hit the full £70m; Fofana wants to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.(Via: Sky Sports)"
This today, seems unchanged. Leicester’s power in the transfer is what is driving the hard bargain and could end up taking till the final day to sort out.
It is going to be a busy ending to the transfer window for the Blues of West London. Also, adding some fuel to the fire, Chelsea entertains Leicester City this weekend at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The former would like to bounce back after their shocking 3-0 defeat to Leeds United, while the latter will want to collect their first three points and first win of the season.
The club continues to be linked with Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong, as well as Alvaro Morata from Atlético Madrid.
