Chelsea Make Shock Enquiry for Manchester United Defender
Chelsea have shocked the world by showing a keen interest in perhaps taking Harry Maguire off Erik ten Hag’s hands at Manchester United.
It has been and will be, a frantic final two weeks in the transfer market for both Chelsea and Manchester United, and for different reasons. The Blues are still looking to replace their first-choice players who departed the club during this window while United look to amend a poor start to their Premier League campaign.
After two losses, no points collected, and no goal scored by the Red Devils, the manager has been considering the option of dropping the club captain and the world’s most expensive defender for their clash against Liverpool on Monday night.
Ten Hag is said to be thinking of starting summer signing Lisandro Martinez alongside last season’s summer addition, Raphael Varane, as the centre-back pairing. Since the news of this going on in the Manchester camp, Chelsea have come to the front and have made an enquiry about the centre-back.
"Chelsea have made a shock enquiry about Harry Maguire’s availability amid growing doubt over the central defender’s future at Manchester United. The England international – who is sweating on his place in United’s team for Monday’s crunch clash against Liverpool – is of interest to the Stamford Bridge club as they toil to complete a deal for Leicester’s Wesley Fofana."
Chelsea See Christian Pulisic Interest as an Opening
With Man United looking at bolstering their attacking options, they have named the Blues Christian Pulisic as a shortlisted target. The London side will look to use their interest in the American as a bargaining chip to possibly secure a deal for the underfire Englishman.
"And Sportsmail has learned that Chelsea have raised the possibility of taking Maguire to west London as part of United’s attempts to sign Chelsea attacker Christian Pulisic. (VIa: dailymail.co.uk)"
This doesn’t interfere with the Blues’ plans to add Wesley Fofana, as they view him as the number one defensive target before the window closes. This will keep Chelsea fans happy and minds at ease.
They hope to seal the Fofana deal by early next week after the player requested to be left out of the matchday squad for the weekend. They are also still trying to complete the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signing and Anthony Gordon deal soon.
This does also suggest that the United fans and the club’s management are in total agreement about their £80m signing, Maguire. His future, long-term and short is uncertain at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge could be his way out of place in turmoil.
