Manchester United and Real Madrid have agreed to a deal that will see the former pay a €60m fee plus €10m in add-ons for Casemiro, while the latter will allow him to leave today to complete his medical.

After losing their opening two Premier League games, Manchester United is expected to be very busy over the last couple of weeks in the transfer window.

The club has conceded six goals, two in the first game against Brighton and four in the second against Brentford, collected no points, and scored no goals from open play or from a set-piece; they have one goal thanks to an own goal scored in the first encounter.

The midfield has long since been an issue for the Red Devils and having lost, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Nemanja Matic, the Manchester club has been travelling light in the centre of the park.

Now they add their second midfielder this summer in the shape of Casemiro and after already picking up playmaker, Christian Eriksen, the midfield is looking a lot stronger as we head into the third weekend of English top-flight football.

The Deal Between Manchester United and Real Madrid

The La Liga champs, as per multiple reports, will receive €60m upfront plus another €10m in added bonus. Casemiro has also been allowed to leave the Bernabéu and complete his medical today, Friday, and then will sign a four-year contract with an option to extend by another year.

This will see the 30-year-old stay at Old Trafford until 2026, with the option to extend keeping him at the club until 2027. The Red Devils want to complete the medical as soon as possible, so he can join up with the rest of the team as they prepare for the big one against Liverpool, next week Monday.

Why Are Real Madrid Selling?

Casemiro, who has been a big part of Los Blancos’ success since joining them in 2013, will probably fall down the pecking order after they signed the promising young talent, Aurélien Tchouaméni, from Monaco for a fee of €80m which could rise to €100m.

He was signed to take over from Casemiro, as both of them would operate in the same area on the pitch. The first game of the season for Madrid saw the Brazilian sit out and only get introduced in the final eight minutes of the game.

He did, however, start and finish in their Super Cup triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, the 10th of August. He assisted David Alaba for Real Madrid’s first goal of the game, which they ended up winning 2-0.

With Eduardo Camavinga already at the club and the arrival of Tchouaméni this summer, game time will be limited for one of Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos, with Modric having recently signed a contract extension with the Spanish club.

An End of an Era at Manchester United

This will, gladly for Man United supporters, end the era of “McFred”. Once the deal goes through between the English club and La Liga outfit, Scott McTominay and Fred will be overlooked for the number 6 role, which both of them have taken up in the past and failed miserably at the position.

United have long cried out for a player who can operate in the position and act alone to help keep things clean at the back. Playing a 4-3-3 formation, which Erik ten Hag does favour, has seen them come up short on a number of occasions.

This could be quite the important addition, or even maybe going as far as saying, this could be the most important piece of the puzzle to finally get things going at Manchester United.
