Aston Villa Approach Southampton for Defender Replacement
Aston Villa have identified Southampton’s Jan Bednarek as the player they see fit to take over from the injured Diego Carlos. It is further said that the Saints are willing to offload the defender.
Despite picking up their first three points of the season when Aston Villa beat Everton at Villa Park 2-1, the day was still met with dismay due to the injury sustained to centre-back, Diego Carlos. Just before the dying moments and before the full-time whistle, Carlos went to ground and had to be replaced.
It was later confirmed by the club that the defender sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon and required surgery. They now recently gave the positive news that the operation was a great success and it’s now the long road to recovery for the centre-back.
Steven Gerrard Confirms He Will Play Again for Aston Villa
The layoff will be a long period (a reported six months) but the manager has confirmed he will play again before the season concludes. However, regardless of him being positive about him playing sometime this term, it is still not soon enough for them not to do work in the transfer market before the window closes.
They have not been linked with many specifics until now, stating they have approached the South Coast side, Southampton, for their outcast Jan Bednarek.
"Aston Villa have approached Southampton over a possible deal for Jan Bednarek. #AVFC keen to replace the injured Diego Carlos & #SaintsFC open to selling the defender. Villa also looking at other targets."

Jan Bednarek has made 166 appearances as a Saint, scoring seven goals and assisting another four while playing centre-back. This season he has started both games for Ralph Hasenhuttl, playing 159 minutes in total.
He has a lot of experience to offer Gerrard and Villa Park and is only 26 years old. He offers a good stop-gap solution and at 26 could be hit and offer a long-term one as well.
They lost their first match against Spurs 4-1 and drew 2-2 against Fulham at home. They go up against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday in their next match. A good chance to pick up more points, as the Foxes have also failed to impress over their opening two games.
Aston Villa meanwhile has a trip to Selhurst Park where they played a Crystal Palace team that has improved game by game.
