The start of the Premier League brings forth the EFL Cup, and all but seven top-flight teams partake in round two of the competition, with only one first-round fixture still to be decided later this evening.

Thirteen top-flight clubs participate in the Carabao Cup round two on the 23rd of August, Tuesday, which is two weeks from now.

The strangest thing about the draw: despite 13 teams entering the cup from the Premier League, last season’s eighth place to 17th place and the newly-promoted sides, none of them face each other in the second round of fixtures.

Premier League Clubs EFL Cup Fixtures:

  1. Bolton Wanderers vs Aston Villa
  2. Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Preston North End
  3. Leeds United vs Barnsley
  4. Fleetwood Town vs Everton
  5. Tranmere Rovers vs Newcastle United
  6. Stockport County vs Leicester City
  7. Grimsby Town vs Nottingham Forest
  8. Norwich City vs Bournemouth
  9. Oxford United vs Crystal Palace
  10. Colchester United vs Brentford
  11. Crawley Town vs Fulham
  12. Cambridge United vs Southampton
  13. Forest Green Rovers vs Brighton

Two EPL teams enjoy home clashes while the other 15 must try their luck on the road, and in cup clashes, that is never an easy task. There will be 25 cup clashes all-around England, with 13 meetings from the northern sector and 12 from the southern sector.

Are There Any Derbies or Big EFL Cup Matches to Look Out For?

Not really. There are only two fixtures that look fascinating, and that would have to be;

  • Leeds United vs Barnsley: the Yorkshire Derby between the EPL club and League One club;
  • Norwich City vs Bournemouth: not a derby, but the closest encounter to a top-flight clash between a former Premier League club and a newly-promoted one: Norwich City vs Bournemouth

Liverpool are the defending club in this competition but are not involved just yet to start defending their Cup. After the second round is where the Carabao starts getting tasty.

It’s anybody’s cup at the moment, and do not be surprised if any upsets occur as early as round two coming in two weeks from now.
