Callum Hudson-Odoi was left out of the Chelsea squad that beat Everton on Saturday. The winger is in need of first-team football and a move to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund could be on the cards.

According to Sky Sports:

"Callum Hudson-Odoi’s representatives are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a loan deal. They will talk to all interested parties before making a decision on his next move.Hudson-Odoi told Chelsea he wants to leave in this transfer window to get regular first team football. His representatives were given permission to negotiate with other clubs.Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and two Premier League clubs have shown an interest in taking him on loan.He came close to joining Dortmund on loan last summer, only for Chelsea to block the move on Deadline Day."

Germany Has Become a Finishing School for English Talent

Many young English players have enjoyed success in the Bundesliga. Jadon Sancho made quite a name for himself at Dortmund, which got him a move to Manchester United. Whilst in Germany Sancho scored 50 goals and created 64 assists in 136 games.

Now at Manchester United, Sancho has found the back of the net just five times and collected three assists in 38 games.

Jude Bellingham who is yet to play in the Premier League is now starring for Der BVB. Bellingham has already played 98 times for the club, scoring 11 times with 18 assists.

Reece Oxford has found a club where he can play regularly in FC Augsburg. Oxford has played 77 times for Augsburg, which is game time he never managed when he was in England.

Seeing these players get good opportunities to play regularly in the Bundesliga could tempt Hudson-Odoi to make the move to Dortmund.

Is It the Right Move for Hudson-Odoi to leave Chelsea?

Hudson-Odoi is just 21 years old and has only played for Chelsea. In total, he has made 126 appearances, scoring 16 goals and creating 22 assists whilst at Stamford Bridge. Last season in the Premier League he played just 15 times, so at his age needs to move on and play regularly.

For such a young player the move to Germany would help him develop both on and off the pitch. Juventus is another club mentioned but they do not have the same track record of developing young English talent as the German sides do.

He may want to stay in England with a couple of sides interested in taking him as well. He already has three caps for the Three Lions and may feel that staying will keep him in the frame for a call-up and potential late push to be in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Qatar. Although Sancho still managed a called up whilst playing in Germany back in 2018.

Hudson-Odoi has a mixed relationship with England after he turned down the opportunity to represent the U21s back in August last year. However, he is still young and needs to show he has the right attitude.

Moving to Germany would show he has a good school of thought about what is best for his career and where is best for him to develop.
