Bournemouth may have won their first game back in the Premier League yesterday in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa. However, Scott Parker’s side is not finished in the transfer window and is looking to complete the signing of Marcos Senesi in the coming days.

According to Fabrizio Romano:

"Bournemouth are set to sign Marcos Senesi, here we go! Full agreement in place between clubs with Feyenoord, waiting for board to approve & sign documents. Four year deal.Exclusive news confirmed, Senesi will be in England early next week once it’s all signed."

Who is Marcos Senesi?

Senesi is a 25-year-old Argentine centre-back who started his career at San Lorenzo in his homeland. He made his debut for the club in 2016 and made 51 appearances, scoring once before joining Dutch side Feyenoord in 2019.

He has made 81 appearances for Feyenoord and reached the final of the Europa Conference League last season with them. He has scored six goals for Feyenoord, including the Eredivisie goal of the season for 2020/21 with a spectacular overhead kick against Den Hag.

Senesi has received call-ups for both Italy and Argentina but he has only been capped by La Albiceleste and his only appearance came in a friendly against Estonia where Lionel Messi scored five goals. He was part of the Argentine squad that won the 2022 Finalissima beating Italy 3-0 but he did not feature in the match.

Would joining Bournemouth be a good move?

Moving to the Premier League from the Eredivisie will definitely be a step up for the defender. Senesi already has one cap for Argentina, with the World Cup just around the corner and if he impresses for Bournemouth, then he is in with a chance at being in Lionel Scaloni’s plans for Qatar 2022.

Feyenoord finished last season in third place in the Eredivisie, which qualified them for the Europa League, so he will be missing out on European football by moving to Bournemouth. Although, he will be playing in a more competitive domestic league.

Bournemouth, having been promoted last season, is expected to be fighting to stay in the division this season, so Senesi can expect a lot of defending to do. They got points on the board already, which is a good sign.

The Dorset club have strengthened this summer by signing Ryan Fredericks from West Ham, Joe Rothwell from Blackburn Rovers, and Marcus Tavernier from Middlesbrough. The Cherries played a back three in their win over Villa, which is something Senesi will have to get used to as at Feyenoord he is used to playing in a back four.

With Parker’s side on the back of a win, he may be reluctant to change his team straight away, so Senesi will have to battle to get a starting spot.

However, with his club football pedigree playing in both Argentina and the Netherlands, as well as his International experience where he is a teammate of Messi, he will no doubt be an asset to Bournemouth in their quest for Premier League survival this season.
