Manchester United’s Transfer Activity

Based on the two months that he has had with the side, it is evident that Ten Hag needs a lot more pieces to fit his puzzle at the club.

United bid adieu to several players who left as free agents; Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic left for Serie A while Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson (on loan) have made switches to Nottingham Forest.

Other players who left the club include Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira, who switched to Fulham. Recently, the club also agreed to a loan move for Alex Telles to Sevilla.

They have pursued quite a few targets in the market and landed a few more. They have invested close to £60 million in signing three players.

  • Tyrell Malacia from PSV Eindhoven – £13 million (plus £7 million in add-ons)
  • Christian Eriksen from Brentford – Free
  • Lisandro Martinez – £49 million (plus £8.5 million in add-ons)

Malacia and Martinez improve United’s defensive profile. Last season, United shipped in 57 goals, their worst showing in the Premier League for them. Therefore, these signings made real sense in terms of improving their creaky backline.

But there is still a need for addressing other key areas. The midfield and attack still remain thin with reinforcements needed.
