Arsenal brought the curtains down on their pre-season tour with an emphatic victory over Spanish giants Sevilla. Owner Stanley Kroenke had given Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta his full support during the summer transfer window.

They have done some serious business in the transfer market. They have splashed the cash to acquire the services of Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus for a whopping £45 million as their new No.9.

The Brazilian dynamo Marquinhos joins from Sao Paulo on a deal believed to be worth €3.5 million. Attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira joined Gunners from Porto for a deal worth €40 million.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner’s move from New England Revolution cost the London club €10 million dollars. His presence will give Aaron Ramsdale a stern challenge for first-team football. The last player to join the Arsenal squad was Oleksandr Zinchenko for €35 million from Manchester City after missing out on Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United.

Hector Bellerin may be keen to return to Real Betis on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell, with Pablo Mari also touted for an exit, but both were included in the Gunners’ U.S. tour squad.

Adding players that can reliably put the ball in the net and protect the man between the sticks should ease the frustration of the fans. In previous seasons when key players were out for extended periods there was an obvious hole in the Gunners team, notably, thus far that seems to be addressed.

Arsenal’s recently concluded EPL season hit a snag when Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey went on the injured list, with the latter being so injury-prone that there is no justification for not having a high-quality option to step into the fray when he is unavailable. Oleksandr Zinchenko ought to add that and may also prove to be an upgrade on Xhaka in Arteta’s 4-3-3 formation.
