Denzel Dumfries on Tuchel’s list

Chelsea hold concrete interest in Inter Milan’s dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries. Some of the most reliable football journalists have reported on this and it appears that Chelsea have identified 26-year-old Dumfries as a good fit at right-wing-back for their system and are keen to take advantage of Inter Milan’s need to raise money through player sales.

Dumfries impressed as a very attacking wing-back for the Netherlands at Euro 2020 before grabbing 5 goals and 4 assists for Inter Milan after moving there last summer.

It is believed that Chelsea feel a bid of £30-35 million might be enough to secure his services, as per the same Athletic article as the Fofana news, and talks have already begun. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue and Inter’s need to make sales allows Chelsea an opportunity to get a deal done quickly.

Dumfries excels at right wing-back thus covering the incredible Reece James in that position while also adding the option to start there and have James shifted to right centre-back in games that demand it.

A move to right centre-back certainly limits James’ immense offensive ability but his pace, power and defending in that position have proved valuable in the past to combat pacey forwards like Jamie Vardy.

Adding Dumfries allows Chelsea to make that tactical switch while still maintaining an offensive threat from right centre-back via Dumfries. A deal for 30-35 million seems likely to happen.
