Chelsea Transfer News: Updates on Cucurella, Fofana, Dumfries and Gvardiol
Josko Gvardiol a viable alternative to Fofana?
With Chelsea missing out on so many key defensive targets and also potentially being priced out of another in Wesley Fofana, links with Josko Gvardiol have re-emerged.
The young Croat would cost north of £70million for Chelsea to prize him away from RB Leipzig. The player does not appear unhappy at the club and would not be expected to push for a move away should the Chelsea interest become concrete.
As things stand, it would seem like the chance of this deal happening are slim, however, what’s clear is that Chelsea rate Gvardiol and have at least made inquiries into a potential price for the young centre-back.
Gvardiol is a strong, quick and aggressive defender with mammoth numbers for ball-progression and ball-carrying from left centre back at RB Leipig.
He’s a pro-active, front-foot defender and has previously played left-back for his National team. Gvardiol is a unique profile of defender already, at this young age so reasoning behind the interest is clear.
But with Leipzig not needing to sanction a sale and the player appearing to be happy at the club, Chelsea are better served to dedicate their time and effort elsewhere at the moment.
