Everton, on Wednesday, announced the arrival of former Wolves defender, Ruben Vinagre, who is currently owned by Sporting Lisbon; he joins on a season-long loan with an option for the EPL club to buy and extend his stay permanently, included in the deal.

"Everton have signed Sporting Lisbon defender Ruben Vinagre on a season-long loan deal. The versatile Portugal Under-21 international, who can play as either a left-back or a left-sided wing-back, spent five years at Wolves between 2017 and 2022, the first of which was on loan from Monaco. The Portuguese club then turned the 23-year-old’s loan into a permanent move this summer, before he joined Frank Lampard’s side, who also have the option to purchase the player at the end of next season. Everton Working From the Back This Summer

Ruben Vinagre, another defender Frank Lampard and Everton have added to the ranks at Goodison Park. A clear indication that the manager is trying to fix a leaky defence that conceded a huge tally of 66 goals last run out in the Premier League.

They also struggled to keep a clean sheet, and not once were they able to keep one in back-to-back fixtures, and that’s across all competitions. They managed as few as seven clean sheets in a 38-match season and nine across all competitions.

Fari to say… The Toffees have done their business a bit better this summer. This window, having not bought one player but got two new men through the door with a free transfer for James Tarkowski from Burnley and a young left-back in Vinagre from Sporting.

That’s a pair of defensive players with Premier League experience without spending a transfer fee. It was said that Everton would approach their summer business differently, having made some big-money signings in the past that have failed to deliver at Goodison Park.

Ruben Vinagre’s Experience at 23 Years Old

Between the ages of 18 and 21, Wolverhampton Wanderers used him in the Championship and Premier League. He made 44 league appearances for the West Midlands club, scoring once and assisting another. In the Premier League alone, he made 35 appearances, with 14 of them being starts.

He also enjoyed a decent spell in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, as he played 32 games (27 starts) while collecting four assists. During this time, he left for Greece and featured eight times in the Super League for Olympiacos.

He has been around the block and offers depth in an area that is travelling light. One injury to the club’s captain and they set up for a bumpy ride for the up-and-coming campaign.

Everton’s Biggest Job This Summer?

Everton’s biggest job this summer is to keep hold of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon. This will be as good as signing new players. They also need to add more firepower to aid the pair of Toffees mentioned.

If they stay, they add one or two more players before the window closes, and get Demarai Gray back to his best while getting Dele Ali and Alex Iwobi playing better football, Everton could recover well from a difficult 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

If they do not consider using the latter players, then sell them and make some funds to buy some players before the window shut. Time is running out for them, so they need to act fast.
