Nottingham Forest, Everton or MLS: Where now for Aaron Ramsey?
Aaron Ramsey’s time at Juventus has not gone according to plan. His loan to Rangers last season failed to revitalise the player as he made just 13 appearances and will be remembered for missing his penalty in the Europa League final. He is a player who needs a fresh start and we could see him back playing in England.
The Mirror states:
"“Aaron Ramsey is expected to return to the Premier League this summer… and Nottingham Forest are leading the race for his signature.“Juventus are set to cancel the 31-year-old’s £400,000-a-week contract, 12 months ahead of schedule.“Championship clubs Cardiff and Burnley are also in the running, along with Everton. A move to the MLS is also rumoured.”"
Aaron Ramsey to reunite with Nottingham Forest?
A move to Nottingham Forest would certainly be a statement of intent from the recently promoted side who have already signed Jesse Lingard as well as Ramsey’s Wales teammate Neco Williams. Ramsey has played for Forest before during a loan spell from Arsenal during the 2010/11 season.
Ramsey was on a lot of money at Juve and Forest is putting their hands in their pockets with a reported massive wage package for Lingard. Ramsey’s wages may not be a stumbling block for Steve Cooper’s side.
A return to his former club Cardiff City would be great for sentimental reasons. To help them try and get promoted from the Championship would be very exciting for fans of the Bluebirds.
However, a player of Ramsey’s quality at just 31 years old should feel he can still cut it in the Premier League. Gareth Bale was linked with Cardiff this summer who chose to move to the MLS with Los Angeles FC.
Kompany & Burnley in for Ramsey?
Moving to Burnley, who was relegated at the end of last season would again be a move to a Championship side. Vincent Kompany who Ramsey came up against when he was at Arsenal and the Belgian was at Manchester City is now at the helm of the Clarets and to be a part of his rebuild would be exciting.
A move to Everton would make sense for a player of his calibre. Frank Lampard managed to keep the club in the Premier League last season. They should never have been anywhere near the relegation zone and Ramsey could be a part of helping the club get back to where they would expect to be.
The former Gunners star could follow Bale to the MLS. His Welsh teammate is two years more senior than Ramsey so could be expected to keep playing at the highest level for a few more years. They are both key players to Wales who have qualified for their first World Cup since 1958 in Qatar later this year.
Like Bale moving to play in America would not affect his chances of keeping his place in Rob Page’s team. However, for him to play at a higher level will certainly keep him sharper as he will be playing against better players. Therefore a move to stay in England would be more sensible.
After a difficult time at Juventus where he made just 69 appearances scoring six goals and making six assists since signing for the club in 2019, Ramsey should be looking to prove he can still perform in one of the top leagues in Europe and make sure he is in the best place possible to prepare himself for the World Cup.
