Has Cristiano Ronaldo tarnished his public image this summer?
By Varun Aithal
How is the fanbase divided during the ongoing saga?
While one section of the Manchester United fan base believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing the Glazers to sign required players, the other section believes Ronaldo is a glory hunter. There are also arguments that the player wants to keep his Champions League record intact and only has a year or two left in him.
Is Cristiano Ronaldo’s record in danger?
Cristiano Ronaldo has 140 goals whereas Lionel Messi has 125 goals to his name in the elite European competition. The Portuguese superstar is closer to retirement compared to his Argentine counterpart.
It looks like he won’t be able to add goals to his tally with Manchester United in the Europa League (at least for this season). Also, Ronaldo’s record of 19 seasons of UCL appearances is at stake if the player continues to play for the Old Trafford outfit.
The player would want to maintain his “consecutive UCL season appearances” and match the tally of Iker Casillas who had 20 consecutive seasons under his belt.
