Newcastle United are interested in signing Leeds United’s Jack Harrison.

According to Football Insider regarding the potential transfer of Harrison to Newcastle:

"Newcastle United have submitted a bid of around £18 million for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison."

Since Newcastle’s takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in October last year, there was an expectation of big-name signings at the club. However, due to financial fair play and a lack of new sponsors, the northeast side is yet to reach the heights anticipated in the transfer window.

Eddie Howe steered the team to an 11th-place finish in the Premier League, so next season they cannot offer European football. They can offer potential newcomers big wages but selling clubs also know they have deep pockets, so will put their prices up if they know the Magpies are interested in one of their players.

So far their biggest capture has been England international Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid back in January, who despite missing quite a few games after suffering from a broken foot, still scored twice in seven appearances for the club from right back.

Jack Harrison who scored eight goals and got one assist in 35 Premier League games last season would be a great addition to help Newcastle build on their mid-table finish last run out. Leeds finished last season in 17th place, surviving relegation on the final day of Premier League action. The move would make sense to go to a club with ambitions and potential to win the league one day.

Leeds United fans would be worried given the mass exodus at their club this summer, with Raphina joining Barcelona, Kalvin Philips joining Manchester City and now the possibility of losing Harrison too. Leeds manager Jesse Marsch has a tough job ahead of him, in his first full season in charge at Elland Road.

Harrison Fuels Speculation Amid Newcastle United’s Interest

In an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post recently when Harrison was asked about his future he said, “we’ll see what happens.” This did nothing but fuel speculation about a potential transfer.

Harrison spent time at both Liverpool and Manchester United’s academies before moving to the USA. Here he was snapped up by New York City FC, where he scored 14 goals and got 10 assists for the club in 61 appearances.

His form in America got him a move to Manchester City but was loaned straight out to Middlesbrough, making as few as four appearances. His career really kicked off when he joined Leeds. He joined initially on loan before making the move permanent.

In total, he scored 28 goals with 22 assists in 166 appearances for the Yorkshire side. He helped the club gain promotion in winning the Championship during the 2019/20 season, where he was a key player in Marcelo Bielsa’s team. Harrison has two caps for the England u21s but he is yet to play for the senior side.

A move to Newcastle would be a step in the right direction for the player. However, with joining a club that has the backing they do now, he will have to hit the ground running and perform consistently as more signings are surely to come at one of the richest clubs in the world.
