Fulham is looking to add their fifth summer signing to the club with Wolfsburg’s Kevin Mbabu their next target.

According to Sky Sports, Fulham is set to sign Kevin Mbabu from Wolfsburg and will finalise a deal in the next day or two:

"Mbabu is expected in London in the next 24 to 48 hours to finalise a move to Fulham. His representatives have been in talks with Fulham all week over a deal that could be worth up to £7m. A deal is close but not fully done."

Mbabu is predominantly a right-back but is versatile and can play centre-back, as well as right midfield. He made 24 appearances in the Bundesliga for the German side last season.

The Swiss international started his career in his homeland and Servette but only made one appearance for the club before heading to Newcastle United in 2013. He made just three appearances in the Premier League for the Magpies.

He struggled with injuries and was sent out on loan to Rangers but did not make a single appearance for the Scottish side. Things started to get better for Mbabu as he returned to Switzerland to join BSC Young Boys.

He signed for the club initially on loan but after impressing he was snapped up on a permanent basis in 2017. At Young Boys, he won the Swiss Super League twice and was the Swiss League Player of the Year in 2018.

Fulham’s Potential New Right-Back Loads of Experience

He also played in the Champions League five times and seven times in the Europa League for the club. In total he made 101 appearances for Young Boys, scoring five goals and getting 15 assists.

His form in Switzerland got him a move to Wolfsburg in 2019. He would go on to make 82 appearances for Die Wölfe scoring three goals and claiming five assists whilst also appearing in the Champions League and Europa League.

A move to Fulham would be a great experience for the player to play in the Premier League. Of course, he has played in Europe for Wolfsburg but they finished 12th last season so did not qualify for any European competition.

Kevin Mbabu Has a Difficult Challenge Ahead With Fulham

A move to the recently promoted side of Fulham will be a great challenge for the player. Marco Silva’s side won the Championship last season and will be hoping not to go straight back down to the second tier, as they have done in their last two times back in the Premier League.

Fulham’s striker, Aleksander Mitrovic, scored a remarkable 43 goals in the Championship last season but managed just three goals last time the club were in the top flight. Mbabu is a right-back who can get crosses into the box and something which a player of Mitrovix’s physicality can feed off.

Mbabu is a fast, tough tackling defender, who has the grit and determination to help the London make sure they stay more than just one season in the Premier League this time around.

He has 22 caps for his country and came agonisingly close to going to the 2018 World Cup, only to be cut from Switzerland’s preliminary squad. The Swiss have qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and are in a group with Brazil, Serbia, and Cameroon.

After missing out on the World Cup in Russia, Mbabu will be determined for that not to happen again and playing well for Fulham in the Premier League will only boost his chances of being on the plane to Qatar.
