Sancho Set to Flourish in the Premier League Under Ten Hag’s System

Manchester United spent the better part of 2020 chasing the signature of England starlet Jadon Sancho. However, since joining the club on July 22, 2021, for a fee of £75 million, he has yet to reproduce the heights he hit at Dortmund.

The fearless, skillful Sancho, who thrives when isolating defenders and taking them one-on-one, scored 5 goals and picked up 3 assists from 34 games for the Red Devils. Unlike his breakout season in Germany, where he scored 50 goals and collected 64 assists in 137 appearances.

Sancho’s intelligence and timing of his runs allow him to profit from driven crosses, cutbacks, and attacks in transition. He also likes to play neat one-two’s around the 18-yard box, where he arrives in a shooting position.

Despite being somewhat of an old-fashioned winger like Ryan Giggs, only that he is a right-footed player playing on the left, this does little to hamper his goal output. These electrifying attributes caught the eyes of former Manchester United boss Ole Solskjaer but, his 4-3-2-1 formation did not work well with him, especially with the sub-par performances of the players around him.

Already Producing Quality Under the New Manchester United Boss

Already breathing a breath of fresh life under new manager Erik Ten Hag, the Man United fans are excited and anticipating the start of the new Premier League season.

Sancho has set the stage on fire in the opening preseason fixtures. With two solid 8 out of 10 performances against Liverpool and Melbourne Victory, Sancho is already displaying confidence on the ball with more runners around him.

It will get even better with the addition of Christian Eriksen and possibly the addition of Frankie de Jong in the middle of the park. It was always going to be the case that the playmaking winger would excel once there was a better offensive synergy and more runners to find.

One doesn’t want to get too excited and count their eggs before they hatch. But there are loads of positives for Sancho and his teammates to build on. If Manchester is to make a mark this season, Sancho is extremely important in them doing so.
