Newcastle United want to sign Everton’s star attacker

Newcastle have been in the market for a new attacker after successfully completing the signing of Lille Losc’s Sven Botman.
After missing out on Everton’s previous talisman, Richarlison, who has now joined Spurs for a reported fee of £60m, Eddie Howe is looking to sign Everton youngster Anthony Gordon.
Reports from the Sun have revealed Newcastle’s interest in the 21-year-old:
"Newcastle have allegedly approached Everton over a £35million move for Anthony Gordon. The England Under-21 star shone for the Toffees last term as he helped them to secure top-flight survival following a miserable campaign."
Gordon played 35 games last season for Everton, scoring 4 times and assisting thrice. While his goal contribution might not be that great, some of his underlying stats are worth looking at.
Gordon is very good at drawing fouls, drawing 2.72 on average while also averaging 0.47 shots from fouls drawn per 90 last season.
He is also very competent in defence, showcasing his ability to play as a wing-back. He averaged 2.44 tackles and 23.47 pressures per game. With this, he managed to secure 2.88 blocks and 1.42 interceptions per 90.
The Sun also reported about Tottenham’s interest in Gordon:
"His displays led to Tottenham attempting to do a double deal with Everton involving both Gordon and Richarlison, but they eventually had to settle for just the £60m Brazilian.via thesun.co.uk"
Everton, however, are reluctant to sell Gordon. They have been looking at the option of him extending his deal with the club and get him to sign a new contract with them.
According to Football Insider:1
"Everton have opened talks with Anthony Gordon over a new contract after rejecting Newcastle United interest, sources have told Football Insider. The Merseysiders have made it a priority to keep hold of the winger, 21, after selling Richarlison to Tottenham in a £50million-plus deal.via footballinsider247.com"
The contract discussion has not deterred Edie Howe and the Magpies’ hopes of possibly signing him, as they will continue to pursue him until either signs a new deal or the transfer window closes.
Howe is known to be one of the best coaches in England when it comes to nurturing young players. If Gordon does choose to move to St. James’ Park, he could potentially see his career reach great heights.
With Newcastle’s recently acquired resources, Gordon will have a number of opportunities to grow into a future Champions League player and potentially an English international.
Newcastle have also been linked with a number of other attackers, including Nicolo Zaniolo, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Victor Osimhen.
