Updates on Frenkie de Jong & general transfers

The journalists in attendance then wished to gain insight into Erik ten Hag’s thoughts on the ongoing, albeit sparse to this point, transfer business since his arrival.

Starting with the sole confirmed signing, Tyrell Malacia, a player identified specifically by the new United boss, ten Hag provided an overview of the reasoning behind his acquisition.

"“He (Malacia) has the profile of a modern full-back. Defending good and tough to beat and in offence really good, that’s why,” said Erik ten Hag. Via: MEN"

Central midfield and on the flanks are also areas which were identified as in need of reinforcements prior to the summer window.

United are advancing in talks with Ajax over versatile defender Lisandro Martinez while being embroiled in an irksome back and forth with Barcelona over midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

"“We want to have the right players,” ten Hag explained regarding the general approach to recruitment. “We have a really good squad, we’re working on developing our way of play and if the opportunity is there, we will strike.” “Definitely we are searching for players in the midfield and also in offence we are still looking for players,” he added in regard to Frenkie de Jong. “I never talk about players who are not under contract at Man United, players at different clubs. I cannot tell you anything about this issue.” Via: MEN"

Short and sweet appears to be Erik ten Hag’s chosen method of communicating to the media. His predecessors have employed differing approaches with Rangnick painfully honest as opposed to Solskjaer who attempted to foster a harmonious relationship with reporters, to the annoyance of supporters.
