The matter of captaincy: Harry Maguire to be replaced?

Perhaps the largest source for debate among Manchester United fans and onlookers alike has been the recipient of the captain’s armband for the fast-approaching 2022/23 campaign.

Harry Maguire was handed the responsibility by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through the 2019/20 season and has carried it since.

The manner in which he has done so has earned criticism, however, with Maguire the one constant in a back four that conceded the most goals in a single Premier League season in the club’s history (57).

Armchair body language experts have long dissected his ability to respond to adversity and inspire his teammates.

Heading into the new season, many suggested that experienced servants David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo would be more suited to the role but ten Hag has seemingly put an end to the discussion.

"“Harry Maguire is the captain. He’s an established captain, he’s achieved a lot of success, so I don’t doubt this issue,” he stated succinctly. Via: MEN"
