Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United

After a slight delay before Erik ten Hag’s eagerly anticipated arrival to a packed-out press room, questions commenced surrounding Tuesday’s ‘friendly’ against their bitter rivals.

"“Yes, playing against Liverpool is always exciting. Man United vs Liverpool is a big game and it’s a really good test for us,” ten Hag commenced with. Via: MEN"

Moving swiftly on from the pleasantries, the line of conversation then shifted to Cristiano Ronaldo’s future which has been one of a range of talking points for Man United since the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.

Ronaldo, far and away the Red Devils’ top scorer with 18 top-flight goals in 2021/22, has recently expressed a desire to depart the club after being disappointed following his return after 12 years.

He is yet to report to training for preseason with personal issues cited as the reason for his absence.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich and former club Real Madrid have all been touted as potential landing spots, but his current employers have maintained their stance that the 37-year-old is not for sale.

"“We are planning with Ronaldo for this season – that’s it. I’m looking forward to working with him,” said ten Hag, reinforcing this train of thought. “He hasn’t told me this,” he added in response to the question of Ronaldo leaving. “I have read, but as I say, Cristiano is not for sale, he’s in our plans and we want to get success together.” Via: MEN"
