Liverpool Defender Busy With Medical as He Nears Anfield Exit
Liverpool’s Neco Williams is reaching the end of his Reds career. He is currently in the final stages of his Nottingham Forest switch, with the signing of his contract and his medical all that’s left to be done before completing a reported £17m move to the City Ground.
Good transfer business shown by the Tricky Trees once they announce the arrival of the young Welshman. They beat a host of top clubs in the Premier League and across Europe for a player who was second best at Anfield but has loads of potential.
Afore deciding to join Steve Cooper at Nottingham Forest, former loan club, Fulham, PSV Eindhoven, and Southampton were the most interested in him and the leading candidates for his signature.
"Neco Williams is set to undergo his medical at Nottingham Forest after a bid worth up to £16 million was accepted by Liverpool.Williams has been linked with a host of clubs this summer, after impressing in the second half of last season at Fulham as the Cottagers gained promotion back to the Premier League. The likes of Southampton, PSV Eindhoven and Fulham were all said to be interested in signing the Welshman, but it now appears that Forest have won the race.(Via: sportbible.com)"
Neco Williams has been long linked with a Liverpool exit
Last summer transfer window, Williams could have already made his move away from Anfield. However, with no work done and only one player brought in during the summer, the manager thought it advisable to let a defender leave on loan or permanently after the injury crisis suffered the season before in their Premier League defender campaign.
Before making a six-month loan move to Craven Cottage, the Welshman only made a single Premier League appearance; he came on as a substitution for the final eight minutes of the game against Watford in a 5-0 win. The season prior, where there was injury after injury in the Liverpool squad, he featured as little as six times, three of them being starts.
With the arrival of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen and Trent Alexandre-Arnold a mainstay for Jurgen Klopp, there will be little to no opportunities for a player that was ready to leave for regular first-team opportunities a season ago.
Nottingham Forest Is in Need of Quality in the Fullback Department
Now that Forest has given up on the hope of Djed Spence joining them for the season after his loan spell expired, they were travelling light in the fullback area, let alone, the right-back department.
This is also why Steve Cooper named the position as a priority and now has two players of quality and experience at the highest level coming in. Neco Williams will be joined by Bayern Munich and former Reading defender, Omar Richards.
Once the pair of fullbacks join the Tricky Trees, they will be the club’s fifth and sixth summer signings, following Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhaté, and Taiwo Awoniyi to the City Ground.
