Tyrell Malacia has signed a four-year deal at Manchester United, keeping him at Old Trafford
until June 2026, with the option to extend by an additional year. The left-back has become Erik ten Hag’s first summer signing since being appointed Head Coach in Manchester and after agreeing to a move away from Feyenoord to play for the Red Devils.
The 22-year-old was spotted arriving at Carrington yesterday to finalise the deal by completing his medical whilst United’s first-team squad reported back to training ahead of
the club’s pre-season tour, which is set to start on July 12.
Yesterday also brought positive news for supporters as news broke of Christian Eriksen verbally agreeing to a three-year deal with United to join the side this summer, as well as speculation quickly growing around the potential signing of Lisandro Martinez; Ten Hag reportedly wants United to “be fast” on the deal, with the Argentine pushing to leave Ajax this transfer
window.
Malacia’s first interview since signing has been released to fans via the club. The youngster is full of admiration for his fellow Dutchman manager, saying:
"It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager [Erik ten Hag] leading us.I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.(via: manutd.com)"
Currently, United have three main left-back options: Luke Shaw, Alex Telles and Brandon
Williams, with Shaw leading the pecking order in recent seasons.
The new arrival could see 21-year-old Williams sent out on loan again to gain experience in the Premier League instead of spending the majority of the season on the bench. It allows Malacia to fight for a place in the starting eleven and gain experience in the most fast-paced and competitive league across Europe.
United remain hopeful that a deal can be struck for the Dutch international Frenkie De Jong before the window closes. They are still in contact with Barcelona and the player’s representatives.
Here are some of the fans’ reactions to the new Manchester United left-back acquisition, Tyrell Malacia
The signs are promising and the first signing, as expected, has brought optimism back to the Old Trafford faithful. @TenHagBalI believes the club has just signed the next Patrice Evra.
One fan was even braver and went one step further, suggesting the club has just signed the best left-back in the English Premier League and the kid hasn’t even taken the field yet in the English top flight.

One fan missed the boat and must not know how old United’s new signing is and what wonders the new man in charge has done with promising youngsters in the past at Ajax. Strange take.
"Manchester United d¤esn’t seem to have a bright future as it stands, cos the club is reluctant on signing promising players especially youngsters but let’s hope Erik’s managerial regime returns United to its glory. Best wishes to u Tyrell Malacia, & ur team this coming season.(Via: @DanielRegha)"
Another fan has praised Tyrell Malacia’s attitude and dedication to the game, believing he will succeed at the Theatre of Dreams.
"Welcome lad. You’ll be fine with your attitude to the game and quality.(Via: @Utd_Analytics)"
The player himself is delighted to join a club with the history of Manchester United and comes at the perfect time. He will be introduced at the start of the United rebuild and under a manager that holds more promise than those who have come before him and after Sir Alex Ferguson.
Another fan confirmed that a fitting manager is in control of the reins, and the right players are starting to be added to the Red Devils’ roster.
"Looking forward to you working with Ten Hag and bringing in a new attitude at the club. Bring the heat Tyrell"
