Raheem Sterling looks to be leaving Manchester City and heading to Chelsea. The move would be a massive one for the Blues’ new owner, Todd Boehly. Signing a player of Sterling’s pedigree will get the fans onside after he recently took over the reins at the club from Roman Abramovich.

According to Sky Sports:

"Chelsea and Manchester City are in advanced talks over a deal for Raheem Sterling, with Thomas Tuchel determined to add the England winger to his attacking options.Any deal between Chelsea and City would be dependent on Sterling agreeing personal terms, and it’s thought he would expect to outdo the salary he is currently on at City, in keeping with his status as one of the biggest attacking talents in the Premier League, in the prime of his career."

Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Sterling grew up in Neasden, London, which is not far from Wembley Stadium. He has a tattoo of a younger image of himself looking up at the Wembley Arch. A return to the capital city would be nice for him from a family perspective.

Sterling has been based in the North since he joined Liverpool in 2010. The Reds gave him his debut as a 17-year-old and a platform to develop as a player before he joined Manchester City in 2015.

At City he won every trophy there was to offer at domestic level, including the Premier League four times. However, one trophy eluded him and that was the Champions League. Sterling came close to lifting Europe’s most prestigious trophy in 2021 when they lost to his potential new club Chelsea.

He played 77 minutes in the final in Porto before being replaced by Sergio Aguero. However, Kai Havertz’s first-half strike was enough to win the trophy for Chelsea. A move to the Blues could see Sterling lift the Champions League and a player of his quality will be desperate to lift this trophy as it is the one that is missing from his trophy cabinet.

Raheem Sterling Last Season

In the Premier League, last season Sterling still played 30 times for Man City scoring 13 goals and getting 6 assists. He is still a top player and still just 27 years old, so he has time to win many more trophies and hopefully for him the Champions League.

He has been one of England’s main men in Gareth Southgate’s side and would hope he gets regular game time at Chelsea to keep his place in the Three Lions squad. However, he faces competition for his place in the form of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic.

Chelsea is not short in the attacking midfield and winger options and needs to bring in a striker to replace Romelu Lukaku. After completing the signing of Sterling, they must focus on bringing in a forward who will get them at least 20 goals a season.

Manchester City has signed Erling Haaland, Liverpool has signed Darwin Nunez and Chelsea must now focus on a striker if they are to challenge with them for the Premier League title and compete in the Champions League.
