Manchester City sign new goalkeeper on three-year deal

According to recent reports, Manchester City have signed Arminia Bielefeld’s goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno on a three-year permanent deal after his contract expired with the German club.

Announcing the signing on their website, Manchester City said:

"Manchester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno on a three-year deal. The 29-year-old has joined the Club on a free transfer after his contract at Arminia Bielefeld expired.via mancity.com"

They also added:

"The experienced German bolsters City’s goalkeeping options and becomes the second signing of the summer, following Erling Haaland to the Club.via mancity.com"

Ortega is set to be the Blues’ second-choice goalkeeper as American Zack Steffan is expected to leave on loan soon.

Announcing the signing on his Twitter page, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano said:

Manchester City are said to have fought off competition from Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04. Prior to signing for Manchester City, the 29-year-old was with his German club for almost 12 years.

The German native boasts some excellent stats and could be a real addition to this already powerful Manchester City squad.

Last season, he managed 3.76 saves per 90 minutes (96th percentile in Europe), while saving 5.21 shots on target against per 90 (93rd percentile in Europe).

His Post-shot expected goals minus goals allowed was a positive 0.22, placing him in the 96th percentile in Europe.

He is also a ball-playing sweeper-keeper, an attribute that will help him settle in with Manchester City tactic. He averaged 14.27 passes per 90 (99th percentile in Europe), while also averaging 1.06 defensive actions outside the penalty area.

Talking to the Manchester City website about his move, Ortega said:

Manchester City are also expected to announce the signing of Kalvin Phillips very soon having agreed on a deal with Leeds United for 45 million pounds.
