Finally, Steven Bergwijn gets his move away from Tottenham with them and Ajax agreeing to a fee said to be €20m for the winger.

A Steven Bergwijn exit from Spurs has been a long time coming, almost making it safe to say: it was long overdue. The player, who joined from the Dutch side, PSV Eindhoven, has endured one and half seasons of selection nightmare.

Sadly, it didn’t improve with the arrival of Antonio Conte. Making his exit even more evident, Spurs welcomed the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus last winter on loan and now, the inclusion of one of Conte’s favourites, Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

This has led him to want to leave the North London club and he has made a public statement about his situation, making it completely clear that he wants to leave as soon as the summer window opened.

Steven Bergwijn’s plea to leave Tottenham:

"I just need to go play. I want to leave Spurs now, that’s for sure.Is it important that my new club plays in the Champions League? That’s not my top priority. It would be nice, but what’s important is that I’m going to play. (Via: thetopflight.com)"

Steven Bergwijn Is Subject to a Medical Before Ajax Move Is Completed

Update on the transfer: Bergwijn has also agreed to personal terms but the fee of £20 could be off the mark. The fee could be anywhere between £20 million and £23m, according to some reports.

Subject to a medical with the Dutch champions and the signing of his paperwork, Bergwijn will make his way back to the Eredivisie where he enjoyed his best days.

Bergwijn, in his short Tottenham stint, featured 79 times for them, with as little as 35 of his games being starts. He went on to score eight goals and provide five assists. Before making the big Premier League switch, he enjoyed plenty of time on the pitch, featuring upwards of 25 plus games per season.

As stated many times in other write-ups throughout the transfer window opening, players are looking to the World Cup in Qatar. The Netherlands had a promising Euros and will want to improve on their knockout phase exit at the next big international event.

Bergwijn has made 14 starts for his country with him scoring six goals and assisting another one. He is a regular in the national team setup at the moment, but his position is being threatened by others breaking onto the scene.

Another bonus in his move to Ajax Amsterdam, after a successful medical of course: he will be guaranteed Champions League football, something he made clear was not important to him when deciding on his next club.

This is a necessary addition for the Dutch outfit as well. They need to do business and add to their attacking line with Antony linked to Manchester United.

Everton is said have taken the lead for the Dutch winger and have offered him a far more attractive deal to try and lure him to Goodison Park as Frank Lampard sees him as a priority and a replacement for the outgoing Richarlison, who edges closer to a move in the opposite direction to Spurs.
