Make the Numbers Speak

But without only waxing eloquent about his positioning versatility, let’s see if the numbers back Fabio Vieira’s quality. Long story short, they do!

Vieira chipped in with 23 goal contributions in 39 games across all competitions for Porto. This included six goals and 14 assists in the league. Vieira’s tally of 14 assists was the second-highest in the league last season despite him playing only 27 games.

Among those 27 games, only 15 were starts and Vieira completed the full 90 minutes on only 15 occasions as well. Therefore, it goes to show the impact that he can generate despite getting fewer minutes.

Vieira’s average contribution of 1.15 G+A (goals & assists) per 90 minutes (in the games that he finished 90 minutes in) trounces the tally of Mason Mount, Emile Smith Rowe and compatriot Bruno Fernandes in the Premier League.

He also averages 0.88 shots on target per 90, which is more than the existing creative midfielders of Arsenal. Therefore, Vieira poses an upgrade on the London club’s existing crop and would greatly improve the Gunners’ prospects going ahead.

With the possible arrival of Gabriel Jesus, the striker and the winger would benefit from the symbiotic relationship upfront. Altogether, the future of Arsenal’s attack and midfield look bright.
