Tottenham Hotspur is preparing a bid for Inter Milan’s Laurtaro Martinez as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his Spurs side.
Italian Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has reported that “Tottenham will do the impossible to uncork him at Inter” and we can “expect a proposal of €90 million upwards for Lautaro.”
However, he also reported that Martinez is not keen on moving to North London, he “wants to stay at all costs, he has recently opened a restaurant in Milan.”
Inter Milan is working on their own squad Pedulla added that they are “preparing to close the Dybala and Lukaku operations.” If these signings are pulled off and with the amount of money Spurs are preparing to offer for Martinez, the Italian club may be tempted to let him go.
A Strike Force of Martinez and Harry Kane
A strike force of Martinez and Harry Kane does sound formidable but it would be interesting if it does happen to see how Conte would get the best out of both of them with both players favouring the centre-forward position.
Martinez scored 22 goals in 35 appearances in Serie A last season. Spurs already have a lot of firepower with Son Heung-Min scoring 23 goals while Harry Kane got 17 in the Premier League last season. These three players combined could be formidable if Conte can find a system that would suit all three attackers.
Martinez is obviously settled at Inter who he has been with since he moved from the Argentine club Racing in 2018. He has scored 74 goals in180 appearances for the Nerazzurri. His opening of a restaurant also shows how he is settled off the pitch.
However, we do like to see the best players prove themselves in English football. It is exciting to see Erling Haaland join Manchester City and Liverpool sign Darwin Nunez. For Martinez to join Spurs we would be able to see how good these strikers compare with each other when playing in the same league.
It Might Be Wise for Martinez to Snub Tottenham
The Premier League is the best league in the World and needs the best players playing in it. It would be a shame if we never see Martinez playing in it but he is still only 24 and his best football is all ahead of him. This move to Spurs this summer probably will not be his only opportunity to play in England.
It is also obviously a World Cup year and Martinez is playing as Argentina’s main striker with Lionel Messi playing on the wing or just behind him. It may be wise to stay at Inter where he knows he will play to make sure he keeps his place as Lionel Scaloni’s main striker.
Martinez has scored 20 goals in 38 appearances for Argentina. He starred in the 2021 Copa America victory and scored and got an assist in their recent victory over Italy in the Finalissima.
With all players that are contemplating a move this summer, the World Cup has to be on their minds as Argentina will be one of their favourites following their recent success.
La Albiceleste has not won the World Cup since 1986 and Martinez could be the man to fire them to success in Qatar and secure Argentina their third World Cup.
