West Ham Interested in Former Man United Player Adnan Januzaj
Adnan Januzaj who was given his Manchester United debut by David Moyes is a target for West Ham this summer. Januzaj has been playing for Real Sociedad and his contract expires at the end of this month.
According to the Spanish website Diario de Sevilla claims that along with the local side Real Betis, “West Ham, Napoli and Barcelona also have the Belgium International on their agenda.”
Of course, Barcelona and Napoli can offer Champions League football, Real Betis are in the Europa League while a move to West Ham will see him play in the Europa Conference League.
These other clubs may be more tempting for Januzaj to play at a higher level in Europe. However, West Ham will hope that a move back to the Premier League and a reunion with David Moyes will sway Januzaj into signing for them.
Januzaj played well at Manchester United in what was a tough season with the club finishing 7th. He was one of the bright sparks scoring four goals and getting four assists in the league run.
West Ham are searching for an Andriy Yarmolenko replacement
West Ham will be looking for a winger as they have announced that Andriy Yarmolenko is leaving the club. Januzaj’s main position is a ring winger but can also play on the left and in an attacking midfield role.
Januzaj struggled for game time when Louis van Gaal took over from Moyes at Old Trafford and then was eventually sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund. However, he also failed to get some much-needed minutes on the pitch in Germany.
Another loan spell at Sunderland was next for Januzaj where he was again managed by David Moyes. But this was again a tough season that ended in relegation.
His career was rebuilt at Real Sociedad which is another former club of Moyes. Januzaj has scored 23 goals and produced 21 assists in 168 appearances for the side and won the Copa del Rey in 2020.
Januzaj has an opportunity to prove himself again
A move to the Hammers would give Januzaj the chance to prove himself in the Premier League again. He knows David Moyes well and has performed well under his tutelage in the past.
It may also be a smart move as Januzaj has struggled for game time at Man United and Dortmund in the past. While he performed well at Real Sociedad so may be suited better to playing at a club where he can be one of the main players.
However, he may want to prove himself in the Champions League at a Napoli or a Barcelona. Another thing for Januzaj to think about is the National team.
He has 15 caps for his country and was part of the Belgium squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup. Januzaj was left on the bench as Belgium beat Poland last night. Roberto Martínez has an array of talent at his disposal, with the likes of Eden Hazard, Dries Mertens and Leandro Trossard.
It is essential that Januzaj gets game time with the Qatar World Cup coming up in November. Clubs like Barcelona and Napoli may be tempting but he must insure he gets game time under a manager who trusts him, which is what he would get under Moyes at West Ham.
