The latest reports suggest Christian Eriksen will reject Brentford’s contract advances as he eyes Champions League football.
Brentford and midfielder Christian Eriksen have been embroiled in a back and forth for months, with the former seemingly getting the cold shoulder.
Eriksen has remained coy regarding his future to this point with an interview explaining his desire for Champions League football the only thing concerned parties had to go off.
"“I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision,” he said nearly a month ago. “I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.” Via: The Top-Flight"
Reports surfacing on Tuesday, however, suggest clarity is closer to being reached and it may not be the kind Brentford fans were hoping for.
The 30-year-old’s stance on playing on the European stage hasn’t changed according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, as quoted by the Mail Online, and he will look to stay in England to achieve this.
Despite the Bees’ boss Thomas Frank’s best efforts to retain his compatriot, Eriksen appears to be set to reject the offer tabled for a contract extension.
The Denmark international signed for the club on a free transfer after being released by Serie A giants Inter Milan and soon became a fan favourite at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Following the developments, Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham have been listed as frontrunners for Eriksen’s signature.
