The PFA Premier League Team of the Year was announced on Thursday with six of the 11 being made up of Liverpool, three from champions Manchester City, one from United, and the final spot saved for Chelsea Football Club.

Before diving into the reactions from around the globe and on social media, we have to establish how exactly the PFA EPL Team of the Year is selected and who selects them. A shortlist of nominees is selected by the players’ trade union every season and as early as January.

From the shortlist of candidates, the players from the league vote for the PFA EPL Team of the Year and all the individual awards.

PFA Individual Accolades for this season

  • PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
  • PFA Men’s Players’ Young Player of the Year: Phil Foden (Manchester City)
  • PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year: Sam Kerr (Chelsea)
  • PFA Women’s Players’ Young Player of the Year: Lauren Hemp (Manchester City)

Now to the juicy reception for the PFA English Premier League Team of the Year

Regardless of who is deciding the winners of the end-of-year awards, there will always be a division amongst the footballing community, especially on Football Twitter (FT).

It’s safe to say many were not happy that the side was predominantly made up of the Reds from Anfield and feel there are a couple of names missing from the best XI who were far more deserving.
