Gabriel Jesus: Clubs Attempt to Try and Hijack Arsenal’s Transfer
Arsenal’s pursuit of Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus could be derailed thanks to interests from other parties. They could lose the striker to the Spanish capital or London rivals, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
What was once a one-horse race has seamlessly become a five-way tussle between the Gunners, the Blues, Los Blancos, Atlético de Madrid, and Spurs. For weeks running it has been all about Jesus and a switch to the Emirates, with a deal looking quite close to finalising in a matter of weeks, if not days.
Now Spurs have acted hastily and have reportedly submitted a bid of £40m for the outgoing striker while both clubs from Madrid are looking to jump in at the last minute and do the same as Spurs.
"Real Madrid could look to hijack Arsenal’s bid to sign Gabriel Jesus this summer. Real, along with neighbours Atletico Madrid, have been alerted to the Brazilian’s situation at Man City."
Not Good News for Arsenal
Regardless of how you look at it, the Gunners come out last in the race all because of not having Champions League football next season. All of the interested clubs mentioned have managers with amazing pulling power.
What striker wouldn’t want to play under Antonio Conte, Thomas Tuchel, or play for the 14-time European champions under Carlo Ancelotti, or for Diego Simeone? Jesus is looking like hot property at the moment and Man City could benefit from a bidding war.
This was all down to the Brazilian and his contribution to Manchester City in their Premier League-winning campaign. In his 28 Premier League appearances he scored eight goals and picked up eight assists.
Not all is lost for the Gunners
As per the transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have been in the lead since Gabriel Jesus became available in the transfer market. The South American connection shared between him and Edu Gaspar also has things falling in Arsenal’s favour.
Fabrizio Romano on Gabriel Jesus:
"Arsenal are leading the race for him for a long time because of the Brazilian connection with Edu Gaspar. Gabriel Jesus is leaving Manchester City this summer."
Not much elaboration has been made of the pair of Madrid clubs’ interest; as of now they and Chelsea are the most recent clubs to enter the Gabriel Jesus race, with Tottenham the only outfit rumoured to have made a monetary bid for the striker.
The only club smiling about all of this is Manchester City, who will not struggle to recover some funds from Jesus’ sale. They signed him for a reported £27m from Palmeiras back in 2016. They are now demanding between £50m-£55m for their forward.
