According to the Italian news outlet, Calciomercato, Newcastle United are looking to launch a tremendous offer to try and woo Napoli star, Victor Osimhen, to St. James’ Park as they look to beat Arsenal to his signature.

The reports read:

"Newcastle are preparing a ‘monster offer’ to sign Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window. Osimhen has attracted plenty of interest among clubs around Europe for his displays at Napoli over the past two seasons.(Via: Calciomercato)"

Napoli have set a price tag of £85 million for the 23-year-old player. Arsenal have been put off by their asking price, but Newcastle are determined to make a statement signing. The Toon Army is ready to match Napoli’s asking price for him and try to secure a deal this summer.

Victor Osimhen in Italy

The Nigerian international has set the Serie A stage on fire with his exceptional performances over the last two terms in Italy. Ever since his move to Italy in 2020/21, Victor Osimhen has scored left, right, and center.

He scored 10 league goals from 24 games in 2020/21 and he added a few more in 2021/22. In the season following, Victor Osimhen scored 14 goals in 27 Serie A fixtures. In the UEFA Europa League 2021/22, the player scored four goals from five games.

Who is Newcastle United’s competition in the pursuit to sign Victor Osimhen?

Bayern Munich and Arsenal are their two rivals, with both clubs looking to fill the void present in their respective attacking lines.

Bayern Munich are on the verge of losing Robert Lewandowski while Alexandre Lacazette has already left Arsenal. The Gunners need a dynamic forward to add to their inexperienced attack comprising Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich are in talks to sign Sadio Mane this summer. However, if the German giants cannot land the Senegalese international, they might not mind splashing out a huge sum of money to secure Osimhen’s services.

Newcastle United survived a relegation scare in 2021/22 under Eddie Howe. Under the new ownership, the club will want to reach new heights and achieve bigger goals they have set out after their Premier League survival.

They have already secured talented Hugo Ekitike and are bolstering their options in all areas across the pitch. Signing Victor Osimhen will be a real statement of intent by Newcastle.

If they manage to acquire all the signings they have priorities for, the only question left to ask is: how can they end up on the table standings?
