Several Premier League clubs have reportedly registered interest in Chelsea and England midfielder Mason Mount.

Mason Mount has become the unexpected subject of transfer talk after reports emerge citing interest from a host of Premier League rivals.

The Chelsea star, who rose through the ranks after joining the club aged 6, has enjoyed a steady campaign in 2021/22 despite a turbulent period for his side off the pitch.

Recording 11 goals and 10 assists in 27 starts, the 23-year-old smashed his previous best total of 5 and 7, helping his team to a third-place finish in the process.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel suffered from headaches attributed to all areas of his squad last season, not least regarding his attack.

Mount proved the sole reliable component in the German manager’s attacking trifecta, with Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic among those who struggled to offer a consistent output.

Such is the allegiance with his boyhood club, rumours of a move away for Mount have been almost non-existent to this point but the precarity of his contract situation has led onlookers to take note.

Liverpool and Manchester City are reported to have made ‘discreet’ enquiries over the England international who is also a target of Erik ten Hag and Manchester United’s. [Daily Express]

How Chelsea’s ownership sage impacts Mason Mount

Doubts around Mason Mount’s future have come to light due to his current side seemingly having their hands tied behind their back due to their ongoing ownership debacle.

Chelsea haven’t been able to offer new contracts during the process of their soon to be finalised takeover by American businessman Todd Boehly.

Players have already fallen through the club’s grasp as a result, with Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger wasting no time in securing contracts elsewhere.

To the relief of those affiliated with the West-London side, however, Mount is contracted until the summer of 2024. Therefore, if their house is in order soon, a new deal can be tabled.

Speaking during the season, Mount explained how the controversy in the board room has spilt into the dressing room.

"“It’s not been easy, when you see what’s happening behind the scenes and everything going on, it can be hard to focus,” said Mount after Chelsea’s 3-1 victory against Norwich City.“But I thought we have been brilliant, especially today with everything that has happened away from the pitch, for us to stay focused, to stay on the ball to win this game, I thought we were brilliant.”Via: Chelsea FC"

The 2021/22 season will be looked back upon as a ‘nearly season’ for Chelsea. They fell away from the Premier League title race and crashed out of the Champions League in agonising fashion after a comeback in Madrid while also losing in the final of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup on penalties.

That being said, and notwithstanding the criticism which is placed on the club’s fast-moving philosophy, trophies never seem far away for the 2021 European champions. And for that reason, Mount will surely commit his long-term future to Stamford Bridge when he is permitted to do so.
