The Seagulls’ awards
Player of the Season: Leandro Trossard

Most would argue Brighton’s Player of the Season should be Marc Cucurella, and rightfully so. But there are just some magical moments one cannot look past of Leandro Trossard. He not only scored in important games but how he scored was out of this world.

Mo Salah who? The quick and tricky runs of Trossard inside the box were sometimes too much to handle for the opposition’s defenders, just ask Liverpool, Man United, and others. He ends the season as the club’s joint-highest scorer with eight goals and has also collected three assists on the way.

If the debate was had about Leandro Trossard and Cucurella, either of the two are worthy candidates for the Player of the Season award.

Flop of the season: Aaron Connolly

Is there much to say about the player who stays in the media’s eye for the wrong reasons? As per many outlets, Aaron Connolly will be lucky to still be in the Premier League next season, let alone Brighton.

A move to Middlesbrough mid-season was meant to respark his playing career and get him away from the limelight for a little. Unfortunately, not much improvement was noticed and the player missed out on another Republic of Ireland call-up.

Most improved player: Brighton & Hove Albion

Is this a cop-out? Nope! The team’s improvement was a collective effort from all personnel, from backroom staff to players, all at the club put in an extra shift and were rewarded handsomely at the end of the season.

Astute transfer business, fewer goals conceded, more goals scored, more wins, and fewer losses, what more could you ask for from a club trying to break into the top half of the Premier League table?

Unsung hero: Yves Bissouma

He is always in the conversation with players such as Rodri, N’Golo Kante, Fabinho, and many other top players, Yves Bissouma, who has been one of the best midfield tackles in the Premier League since joining Brighton.

This season: Bissouma topped the top-flight chats and had the best tackle completion percentage with a 66.7% completion rate. Because of this, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, West Ham, and other top clubs want his services.

Brighton’s signing of the season: Marc Cucurella

There cannot be two players of the season, and because of Trossard stealing my accolade for Player of the Season, Cucurella had to show up here as the Signing of the Season. He was Mr. consistent for Potter.

Cucurella completed the most minutes (3,089 minutes completed) and games (35) than any outfield player besides Robert Sanchez. Always fit and always reliable when on the pitch. One of the best maiden campaigns you will see from a defender. Making his first showing in the EPL even more amazing? He only played one game the season before in Spain for his previous club Getafe.

Team rating Out of 8.2

It was a great season with many positives to take from it. The only downfall to take away from this season was their home form (5-7-7), which needs to improve if they are going to better their ninth-place finish and 52 points.
