Tottenham Hotspur are nearing the signing of Southampton’s Fraser Forster as a backup goalkeeper.

Tottenham Hotspur have declared their early intentions for a thrilling upcoming summer transfer window after clinching a Champions League spot under Antonio Conte.

The Lilywhites are closing on a free transfer for 34-year-old Fraser Forster from Southampton. The Englishman is expected to provide cover for French international Hugo Lloris who is still the number one goalkeeper at the club.

Forster made 19 appearances for the Saints this season after taking up responsibility as first-choice goalkeeper midseason due to the absence of injured Alex McCarthy. He kept 3 clean sheets and was a worthy replacement between the sticks despite an underwhelming performance from the defence ahead of him.

Hugo Lloris to remain First-Choice ahead of Fraser Forster

The 6 ft 7 giant will be a valuable addition to Tottenham’s roster who are looking for a backup option for Hugo Lloris who recently signed a contract extension until 2024 in January.

The London side also has Pierluigi Gollini in the rank who was loaned last summer with a buy option from Atalanta with an eye for an Italian replacing Frenchman in the future.

Lloris has shown no signs of stepping back at the age of 35, making 42 appearances this season and is likely to continue as the first-choice option in the upcoming season as well.

Pierluigi Gollini is now expected to leave the London side with Torino interested in him. He also stated his displeasure with being 2nd choice keeper while speaking to the DAZN Talks podcast.

"“Satisfied with the experience? It’s normal that I was hoping to play a bit more, but I knew from the beginning that I would play the cups and Lloris the league,” said the Italian goalkeeper."

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites have set their sights on Fraser Forster who is extremely interested in moving to the London side. He has also reportedly agreed to take a pay cut to make this move on a free transfer after 8 years with the Saints, as per the Daily Mail.

Fraser Forster could be the first of many incomings in the summer transfer window for Tottenham as they are likely to go all guns blazing for keeping Antonio Conte at the club. Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski are now certain to remain at the club while players like Gabriel Jesus and Christian Eriksen are linked to Spurs.
