Christian Eriksen: What Are His Options After His Contract Expires?
Christian Eriksen’s contract with Brentford will reach its conclusion now that the 2021/22 Premier League campaign is finished. What will be his next move after helping the Bees stay in England’s top flight and now that he has other offers on the table?
The return to football for Denmark’s Christian Eriksen was a sweet comeback and one that has put him back on the radar of some top clubs across Europe. In the Premier League alone and excluding Brentford’s interest in retaining his services, there are three other sides said to be interested in signing him for free.
One of the EPL clubs monitoring his situation since being let go by Serie A side, Inter Milan, is his old club Tottenham, where he spent a glowing seven seasons at. Adding fuel to the speculation of an Eriksen-Spurs reunion is that Antonio Conte would be happy to link up with the playmaker again, following their successful stint together at the San Siro.
"Christian Eriksen has been approached by three Premier League clubs but Brentford will open talks with his agent to make a proposal.Brentford director Giles: “It’s no secret that we’d love Christian to stay. We will continue to discuss that possibility with him”. (Via: @FabrizioRomano)"
The two together, although he got off to a slow start under Conte in Italy, brought Inter their first Serie A title in 11 years. Players who enjoyed the playmaking qualities of the 30-year-old were strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
Christian Eriksen a huge part of Brentford’s second-half success
During the heavy Christmas period and turn of the year where the fixture list is congested and overwhelms Premier League teams with footballing action, the Bees found it hard to keep up the good work accomplished in the early part of the season.
But thanks to a masterstroke in the January transfer window to add some world-class experience in Eriksen, they saved their top-flight status for another season. Of their last 12 league outings, he featured in 11 of them, starting 10 matches.
Of those that he featured in he contributed to the team with one goal and four assists, all of which the promoted side went on to win; this included wins against Chelsea and Everton. They placed nicely in 13th and now look to next season’s survival.
Do their future plans contain the Dane? Or is his time in London with the Beeds done and it’s time to move on to where he can try for more silverware.
