Liverpool: Does a Lewandowski Exit Clear the Way for Mané to Move to Bayern Munich

Robert Lewandowski’s situation apparently holds the key for Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and his potential move to Bayern Munich. The Germans are considering different exit options for the striker with them said to be in contact with multiple targets.

Barcelona has been the team mostly linked with the number 9 since the news of him and the club’s stalemate in contract talks. Following this news, fast spread the word that Mane’s agent and Bayern officials had held discussions; nothing serious but just talking about his availability.

Now it is being confirmed by Head of Football @SPORTBILD & @BILD_Sport Christian Falk, that Bayern Munich are in fact in talks with the agents of, Sasa Kalajdzic, Sadio Mane, Ousmane Dembele and Sebastian Haller.

The list of names is a result of both Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry not agreeing to a new deal, hence the need for a winger and a striker.

Robert Lewandowski’s Exit Options

The 33-year-old has a year left on his deal and having denied the Bavarians a contract extension, they would want to sort out a sale now rather than lose him on a free transfer in 2023.

It is no secret that Barcelona has named him as their prime number 9 target, likewise, has he expressed his preferred desire to join the Calatan side this summer rather than later. But Barca has a lot of financials to sort out on their end before any deal can transpire.

If a deal fails to materialise and La Liga is a no go for him, there have been alternative options named. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be very interested in the striker, with the former having made three failed attempts in the past for him.

Chelsea has to deal with the misfiring Romelu Lukaku, do they keep him or do they sell him? The same goes for the forgotten forward, Timo Werner. They might need a new target man up front if they are to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for top honours.

Sadio Mane Contract Talks on Hold

It is no mystery that Sadio was not happy that Liverpool made Mo Salah’s deal the priority over his. The club, however, spoke confidently that they will reopen the dialogue over a potential new deal but that might not happen if Bayern acts this summer.

The club will also not stand in his way if he does decide now is the time to take up a new challenge elsewhere. His deal expires next year June 2023 and with no release clause inserted in his current contract, they are relaxed about the situation.

Liverpool’s Interest in Serge Gnabry

What’s being sparked here is a possible transfer merry-go-round. If Sadio leaves Anfield, Liverpool will need somebody else to take over from him; a replacement will be required despite the arrival of Luis Diaz in January.

As mentioned earlier, there is a contract standoff between Gnabry and Bayern and the Reds would look to entertain this and try their hand at possibly signing the German.

So a transfer of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona sets the wheels in motion for a transfer of one of Sadio Mane or the other mentioned players to Bayern Munich, which then could potentially spark the deal for Serge Gnabry to join Liverpool as a relief for Mane.
